Radar Relay Creator Unveils New Tools for Lightning Network

By | April 12, 2019

The Ethereum-based startup known for creating wallet-to-wallet trader Radar Relay has introduced a series of new development tools for programmers at Boltathon, a Lightning Network (LN) focused virtual conference and hackathon.

For the event which just took place online on April 5 to 7, Radar built and assembled tools, tutorials, and other resources to help LN developers build and test apps. LN is a second layer payment protocol that operates on top of a blockchain-based cryptocurrency, mainly Bitcoin. It has been touted as the possible solution to resolving Bitcoin’s scalability problem from its speed in handling transactions.

The toolkit includes a guiding tool for lightning node setup, backed by a testnet channel that quickly connects one node to another. The company also displayed an invoice sandbox to trial token transactions, along with an instrument that curbs volatility as transactions are made on the testnet – a feature of nascent development that is nowhere near what it may seem yet.

Brandon Curtis, Radar’s Product Manager, reportedly said that the company’s research and development (R&D) team views LN’s potential as far more than simply a two-party payments channel.

The tools are part of Radar ION, a Radar news source dedicated to LN users, and which opened for public testing during Boltathon’s hackathon. Apart from Radar’s purported focus now on fintech products, Radar ION takes an interest in supporting the creation of LN-related apps, such as Koala Studio’s LN-powered, Bitcoin-monetized gaming platform.
