Crypto exchange firm Poloniex has initiated a compulsory password reset sequence for all its clients, because of an accident involving an email addresses and passwords list leaked on Twitter.
Specifically, on December 30, an email generated from Poloniex has been sent to its clients, alerting them about a list containing email addresses and passwords, which could be used by hackers to gain access to their Poloniex accounts.
In an effort to prevent consequences from the accident, Poloniex has initiated a password reset sequence, on all email addresses that are linked to Poloniex accounts.
“While almost all of the [leaked] email addresses listed do not belong to Poloniex accounts, we are forcing a password reset on any email addresses that do have an account with us, including yours.”
However, an awkward situation has occurred following Poloniex’ efforts to keep its clients safe, as one of its customers has posted a Twitter update to notice others, claiming the above-mentioned email from Poloniex was a scam move.
Poloniex customer services team had to provide evidence that the email was in fact generated from the firm.
“This is a real email! Please reset your password for account security,”
