New Lightning App Lets You Purchase Pizza With BTC

On Wednesday, Feb 13 the latest offering from San Francisco-based Bitcoin payment app Fold, makes fiat pizza purchases on behalf of hungry customers. You can buy Domino’s Pizza via the Lightning Network from anywhere in the US with <$0.01 fees. Over 150 people bought pizza with bitcoin this week by using the Lightning Network.

The business is currently in an initial phase, with users reporting to the service they were unable to access the full range of Dominos products available via the regular menu order process.

As Bitcoinist reported, the Torch, which is a relay transaction circulating around the network, has seen involvement from figures including Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey. A push to make Tesla founder Elon Musk get involved continues.

The Fold web app plans to integrate lightning for all its shopping options over the next six months, including Starbucks, Whole Foods, Dunkin Donuts, Target, and Uber.

Fold product lead Will Reeves says: “We’re trying to make bitcoin fun again and illustrate that lightning is at a point where it is mainstream-ready.”
