The US National Basketball Association (NBA) – along with its affiliated organization the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) – has formed a collaboration with Dapper Labs to introduce a new crypto-based collectibles game.
As stated via a post on the NBPA web page, the game will be rolled out in the early months next year.
The game – dubbed NBA Top Shot – will enable players to form their own roster, via crypto collectibles, to compete with each other.
Per the post, players will have the ability to collect footage, recorded live from the official NBA matches, and use them to some extent to come up with a roster to challenge other players, or maybe just to form a collection or trade with others at their own will.
“The NBA and its players are among the greatest heavyweights in global culture […] Through NBA Top Shot basketball fans can engage with their favorite players, teams, and each other in entirely new ways. We use the latest in blockchain technology to create assets and experiences that are guaranteed limited edition and authentic, not to mention portable and permanent in a way nothing digital has ever been before.” Roham Gharegozlou – Dapper Labs CEO – remarked regarding the news.
Blockchain tech has been blooming in the basketball game. Previously, the Sacramento Kings has partnered with a crypto mining hardware company, to set up Ether (ETH) mining equipments in Sacramento’s Golden 1 Center.
The Cleveland Cavaliers has also confirmed their partnership with crypto firm UnitedCoin, which will result in in-game promotions for UnitedCoin, and a fintech development roadmap in return for the basketball team.
