IBM has reportedly forged an alliance with wine monitoring eProvenance, to roll out a platform dedicated to wine tracking.
Specifically, the new solution – referred to as “the VinAssure platform” – is reportedly a joint project between IBM and eProvenance, and will help track wine from its vineyard origins to the local vendors.
The VinAssure platform will reportedly be designed upon the foundation of IBM Blockchain Transparent Supply, where IBM Cloud will be involved to take care of operational process, enabling tracking for wine producers, importers, transporters, distributors, restaurants, retailers, and others, via “a permissioned, permanent and shared record of data.”
Entities taking part in the VinAssure platform reportedly includes wine importing firm De Maison Selections from North Carolina, with a $22 million yearly income.
IBM reportedly revealed that winemaker Maison Sichel from Bordeaux as well as the export-focused branch of Sainte Michelle Wine Estates were having plans to employ the blockchain-powered supply chain solution soon, potentially to act as representative for “millions of bottles of wines moving through the global supply chain.”
“We believe the future of the wine industry lies in verifiable provenance, transparency and traceability,” André Tamers, owner of De Maison Selections, reportedly remarked.
The IBM system will employ ID codes for bottles, to offer detailed information of the product to wine lovers, regarding the “provenance and flavor profiles”, apart from any standards associated with organic, biodynamic, or sustainability practices.
