The U.S. Republican Party has integrated significant support for cryptocurrency in its official 2024 election platform, highlighting its commitment to appealing to crypto-focused voters.
In the “Make America Great Again” Republican Party Platform, the GOP pledges to halt what it describes as an “unlawful and un-American crackdown” on the U.S. crypto industry. This platform, unveiled on Monday by the campaign of presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, also commits to “defend the right to mine bitcoin” and supports the self-custody of crypto tokens. Furthermore, the party opposes the establishment of Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs).
The document states, “We will defend the right to… transact free from Government Surveillance and Control.”
This platform marks the latest in a series of initiatives by the Trump campaign to engage pro-crypto voters amid an increasingly contentious presidential race.
Earlier this year, in May, Trump pledged to pardon Silk Road creator Ross Ulbricht and endorsed the self-custody of digital assets during a political convention in Washington D.C., addressing a lively crowd that included many Libertarian and pro-crypto supporters. Later, Trump reportedly held discussions with several bitcoin miners about crypto mining and policy at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida.
