Facebook is having five new job openings for blockchain talent at its headquarters in Menlo Park, California, according to its Linkedin listing posted on March 29.
The vacant positions in Facebook’s blockchain team include growth product manager, product manager, data scientist, software engineer, and business operations manager.
The job recruitment description has shown the areas that the new technology is possibly applied to: “The blockchain team is a startup within Facebook and we’re exploring lots of areas of interest across all facets of blockchain technology. Our ultimate goal is to help billions of people with access to things they don’t have now – that could be things like healthcare, equitable financial services, or new ways to save or share information.”
Facebook’s blockchain team first launched in May 2018, with David Marcus – the head of Facebook’s messaging app Messenger, as the leader. Recently, the company also sought for a senior lawyer who has experience in both blockchain and payments fields. This position will be responsible for composing and arranging a wide variety of contracts related to blockchain and also consulting customers with legal advice associated with the tech. The number of blockchain related jobs at Facebook has surpassed 20.
Recently, Facebook is reportedly looking for a lead counsel who has experience with blockchain or payments technology, and their related legal issues. The lead counsel is expected to support Facebook’s “new initiative in the development of blockchain applications”.
Over time, Facebook’s stance on blockchain and cryptocurrency has changed significantly. From banning the use of crypto, the company is considering the launch of its new stablecoin for Whatsapp’s users, reported by The Crypto Sight on March 3.
