Despite being rather tight-lipped so far, it looks like Facebook’s foray into blockchain is getting pretty serious. With more than 20 blockchain-related positions open to hire on its website, Facebook has since added another key position – Lead Commercial Counsel for blockchain.

The lead counsel is expected to support Facebook’s “new initiative in the development of blockchain applications”. The appointed candidate will be responsible for “drafting and negotiating a wide variety of contracts related to our blockchain initiatives, including partnerships needed to launch new products and expand such products internationally. You will also advise clients on the various legal risks, business strategies and other issues related to commercial transactions and general operations”.

Apart from requisite legal experience, Facebook is looking for a lead counsel who has experience with blockchain or payments technology, and their related legal issues.

Earlier this month, The Crypto Sight reported off The New York Times that Facebook has been making significant enough inroads into its blockchain exploration to begin consulting with crypto exchanges on the possibility of creating a Facebook token that could be used to transfer funds instantly over WhatsApp.
