Elon Musk Addresses Allegations Regarding AI Chip Diversion from Tesla to Social Media Platform

By The Crypto Sight | June 5, 2024

Texas, June 5, 2024 – Billionaire industrialist Elon Musk announced that the southern extension of Tesla’s Giga Factory in Texas is nearing completion, a development set to enhance the company’s AI infrastructure. This statement came amidst controversy sparked by a recent CNBC article dated June 4.

The CNBC report alleged that Musk had instructed Nvidia to prioritize 12,000 H100 AI chips, originally designated for Tesla, for use by his privately-owned social media company, X. The article cited emails purportedly from Nvidia that supported these claims.

Responding swiftly via multiple social media posts, Musk denied the allegations. He clarified that Tesla did not require the chips at this time, suggesting they would have remained unused in storage. Despite his reassurances, the article had an immediate impact, causing Tesla’s stock to drop by 1% early on June 4.

Further complicating matters, CNBC reported that the purported diversion of AI chips has exacerbated existing tensions between Musk and some Tesla investors. Concerns have been raised about potential conflicts of interest, with some investors feeling that Musk’s extensive commitments to various ventures might be overextending his capabilities.

Musk oversees a diverse portfolio of high-tech enterprises, both public and private, including Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink, xAI, and X, formerly known as Twitter. His involvement in these ventures positions him as a pivotal figure in the fields of artificial intelligence and brain-to-computer interfaces.

In 2023, X began rolling out the Grok chatbot, branded as a “non-woke” alternative to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. This large language model chatbot is now available to all paying users of the X platform. Additionally, Musk’s Neuralink achieved a milestone by securing U.S. Federal Drug Administration approval to conduct human trials. Earlier this year, Neuralink successfully implanted its brain-to-computer interface in a human test subject, enabling the individual to control a computer mouse using only their thoughts.

As Musk continues to push the boundaries of technology across multiple sectors, his ventures remain under close scrutiny from investors and industry observers alike.
