By | June 28, 2021

The president of El Salvador has reportedly disclosed an authoritative initiative to send $30 equivalent of Bitcoin (BTC) via airdrop, to every adult citizen of the nation.

Specifically, the development reportedly received the support of Bitcoin enthusiasts, with influencers casting predictions that the authority will have to buy the associated sum of BTC it is looking to give out, adding over $100 million in purchasing pressure on markets.

The estimation of googled searches for El Salvador adult population reportedly returned a variety of results, with on-chain analyst Willy Woo shared via Twitter that Bitcoin’s international user base will experience a 2.5% surge, because of the influx of 4.5 million Salvadorans.

Others reportedly believed the Salvadoran adult population can reach up to 6.5 million, with Yahoo Finance anchor Zack Guzman involving the figure in his calculations for some approximate, back-of-the-envelope result, which leads to a total of $195 million equivalent of Bitcoin to be airdropped throughout the nation.

The precise figure is reportedly hard to determine, but Statista data inferred that in 2019, the population aged 15 and above was 4.72 million.

Regardless, Crypto Twitter’s euphoria could reportedly have prematurity, since local newspaper Prensa Latina disclosed that the free Bitcoin will be available in the purse of El Salvador’s citizens, as soon as the installation of the government-issued crypto wallet app is completed.

The development reportedly surfaced on June 26th, with president Nayib Bukele claiming that the government’s “wallet app will even work anywhere with a cell connection, and you won’t have to have a cell plan for the app.”

President Bukele additionally revealed that the vastly-welcomed national Bitcoin law – granting Bitcoin the status of legally accepted currency countrywide – will be officially effective beginning Sept. 7.
