The Bitcoin (BTC) hype of regulators across the globe has reportedly tapped the Belgian parliament, with Brussels member of parliament Christophe De Beukelaer selecting to convert his earnings to Bitcoin.
Specifically, the Belgian lawmaker will reportedly receive his monthly salary of EUR 5,500 ($6,140.75) in the form of Bitcoin, with the assistance of the Bit4You crypto trading platform.
Beukelaer – the representative of Humanist Democratic Centre (CDH) party – reportedly shared hopes of his initiative becoming a force of inspiration for different politicians in the nation to express the same kind of enthusiasm towards the nascent tech.
Beukelaer reportedly mentioned the instance of New York City Mayor Eric Adams and the way politicians in the US are pushing towards turning their native states or cities into Bitcoin hubs.
“New York City Mayor Eric Adams has spent three months collecting his Bitcoin salary to make New York the Bitcoin hub. I think it is not too late for Brussels and Belgium to play a leading role in the cryptocurrency industry.”
Miami Mayor Francis X. Suarez is reportedly an additional lawmaker that has a reputation for being a big BTC advocate. He has been adopting a vocal attitude regarding turning the city into a Bitcoin hub.
Aside from the decision to receive his monthly wage in Bitcoin form, he further invests his resources towards introducing a similar measure to his city’s employees.
Politicians are reportedly not the only group of well-known individuals in a sector choosing Bitcoin for salary. Different figures in the sports industry also support the development, with seven NFL stars chosen to be paid in Bitcoin.
Similarly, players in the NBA league like Klay Thompson and Andre Iguodala reportedly also disclosed their initiative to accept Bitcoin salaries in the future.
