US-based cinema heavyweight AMC Theatres is reportedly taking gradual steps towards supporting crypto payments by 2021’s end, with the recent introduction of crypto purchases for electronic gift cards.
Specifically, AMC customers will reportedly have the ability to purchase gift cards using different crypto coins, such as Bitcoin (BTC), via the AMC website, mobile app, and theaters, in a direct manner, as revealed by the entity’s Head – Adam Aron.
The new payment measure was reportedly facilitated via high-profile crypto payments processor BitPay, offering consumers the freedom to buy e-cards with a maximum of $200.
The CEO reportedly expressed significant attention towards Dogecoin (DOGE) among the viable virtual assets for AMC e-card purchases. Aron hinted last month that AMC will be rolling out supporting features for DOGE as well, regarding the cryptos available for purchasing tickets, by the end of 2021.
Aron reportedly carried out a Twitter poll of 140,000 individuals, presenting the question regarding AMC’s acceptance of DOGE as a medium of payment for tickets to the community.
“It’s clear that you think AMC should accept Dogecoin. Now we need to figure out how to do that. Stay tuned”.
As revealed previously, Aron reportedly disclosed related to the firm’s initiative of adding Bitcoin to the list of viable payment methods for movie tickets in August, with the timeline to finalize the project being 2022.
The movie chain has further plans down its pipeline to offer facilitating features for four additional crypto coins – the aforementioned DOGE, Ether (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), and Bitcoin Cash (BCH).
