WhatsApp looks to implementing digital wallets to facilitate online payment across Indonesia. Reuters further revealed that WhatsApp plans to use its project in Indonesia as a template, which will help its initiatives in the future to avoid any regulatory concerns, which could prohibit the use of digital wallets from other countries.

“WhatsApp is in conversations with financial partners in Indonesia about payments, however the discussions are in early stages and we do not have anything further to share at this stage.”

However, Reuters notified that the negotiating progress with the 3 establishments will be completed within a short amount of time. Nevertheless, the project will be introduced no sooner than 2020, as Facebook is making moves to roll out the tool in India simultaneously – which will happens when regulatory problems are resolved.
