A Teenage Hacker Stole Data for BTC, Received 20-Month Sentenced

Elliot Gunton, a 19-year-old hacker was recently arrested by the Norfolk police by stealing online personal data and sell for Bitcoin (BTC)

According to a press release of the Norfolk police, Gunton laptop was seized in April 2018, in which the hacking software was found. He was officially sentenced to prison for 20 months and were fined over $485,000 by the Norwich Crown court. 

After numerous investigations, the police discovered that Gunton earned $3,000 BTC for advertising compromised data and blackhat hacking services. Gunton is said to control $334,000 worth of cryptocurrency including BTC.

 The police was able to track his online conversations with others, which were used as evidence against him. Gunton even tweeted ““Having lots of money is cool… But having lots of money without people knowing is cooler.” in Twitter under the handle @Gambler

Gunton was charged with breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, hacking offenses and money laundering. Moreover, he will be restricted from using internet any device capable of accessing the internet other than one readily controllable by law enforcement. The restriction is reportedly last three and a half year. From now on, he could not use private browsing , incognito mode or other similar privacy-protecting measures, alongside VPNs or the Tor network.
