Number of Blockchain and Crypto Lobbies Tripled in US Capitol

| 20-Th3-2019

Over the past year, the number of cryptocurrency and blockchain lobbies has grown nearly thrice in the US capitol, Washington D.C. There were 33 active projects of crypto and blockchain lobbies in Q4 2018, comparing to 12 in the same period of 2017, as reported by the national news outlet Politico on Mar 18.

The executive director at the non-profit organization Coin Center, Jerry Brito, reportedly claimed that the securities regulation was the key driver of that dramatic growth. The organization has been working with US congressman Darren Soto and Warren Davidson, who are well-known for their supportive attitudes towards digital currencies.

Back in a public interview on January 2019, Soto made his firm speech about the impact of US security regulation to digital currencies. He said crypto should be under authorization by the Commodities and Futures Trading Commission and Federal Trade Commission, instead of being classed as securities under the Securities and Exchange Commission’s charge.

Blockchain technology is being recognized and adopted in various industries. However, blockchain firms are still facing difficulties when they adopt the technology for other purposes beside cryptocurrencies.

“I think that when you have a new technology and new platforms in older and heavily regulated spaces, you need as many legitimate voices and boots on the ground that you can get.” said Izzy Klein from Ripple-backed Klein/Johnson Group, which lobbies for the Securing America’s Internet of Value Coalition.

In 2018, the blockchain lobbying allies in Washington D.C has been formed from multiple crypto giants such as Coinbase, technology startup Protocol Labs, as well as the Digital Currency Group and Polychain Capital. The Association will represent the voice of the industry insiders i.e. blockchain investors and entrepreneurs.

Recently reported by The Crypto Sight on Mar 18, Kevin McCarthy, the current Republican Minority Leader in the United States House of Representatives stated that blockchain technology can provide more efficient and trustworthy to the US Government.
