Opera the web browser will be extending its blockchain-ready version with a notable built-in crypto wallet to iOS users, it revealed officially on its blog (Mar 5). Opera Touch is a Web 3 browser powered by the Ethereum (ETH) blockchain, and serves as a DApps (decentralized applications) explorer.
Web 3 is an umbrella term described by Opera as a set of emerging technologies intersecting cryptocurrencies, blockchains, and distributed systems which collectively extend the capabilities of the Internet.
“We identified the biggest challenge to be the lack of easy-to-use solutions for crypto. Users were forced to install separate wallet apps which didn’t include full-featured browsers. Setting up such wallets was difficult and browsing the Web with a wallet app is burdensome. We removed this hurdle by integrating an easy-to-use wallet into our Android browser. Now, we are delivering this seamless experience to iOS users,” explained Opera in its blog post.
No fixed date for the launch of Web 3 for iOS has been made known yet. However, the public can sign up on its website be an early tester for the iOS version. The Android version of Web 3, which sports a built-in crypto wallet, was first launched last December.
Since February 6, Opera has allowed users in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark to directly buy Ethereum on its Android browser. This has been possible courtesy of a strategic partnership with brokerage firm Safello, a Financial Supervisory Authority (FSA) member in Sweden.
