Police in Turkey have arrested 24 suspects in a nationwide sting operation over a hack which led to 13 million Turkish lira ($2.47 million) worth in Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Ripple (XRP) being stolen.
According to Turkish media (Feb 13), a cryptocurrency company in Istanbul had discovered the loss, which led the Istanbul Cybercrime Branch Office to find that two of the company’s accounts had been hacked and the missing crypto transferred directly out to other accounts.
Police also found that the suspects were using popular online game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) as their communications channel. The 24 suspects were subsequently nabbed in simultaneous raids carried out across eight provinces: Ankara, Izmir, Afyonkarahisar, Bursa, Edirne, Bolu, and Antalya.
Police also seized 54,000 lira in cash ($10,000) and 1.3 million lira worth in cryptocurrency ($247,000).
