Helium Finalizes Solana Transition Following New T-Mobile Alliance

| 23-Th9-2022

The Helium Foundation reportedly disclosed details of its mainnet transition to the Solana blockchain, after a community vote.

Specifically, per the proposal, proof-of-coverage and data transfer mechanisms will be transferred to Helium Oracles.

Meanwhile, Helium’s tokens and governance will relocate to that of the Solana blockchain. As revealed by engineers, the perks of the transition would include an addition of its native token HNT available to subDAO reward pools, more consistent mining, more reliable data transfer, more utility for HNT and subDAO tokens, and more ecosystem support.

Helium reportedly functions as a blockchain wireless communications protocol. The similar week, Nova Labs, the creator of Helium, put its signature on an agreement with US-based telecommunications provider T-Mobile to introduce Helium Mobile, a crypto-based mobile service that will enable subscribers to earn crypto rewards.

Helium Mobile subscribers on this cellular plan will be able to opt-in to earn token rewards for sharing data regarding coverage quality and assist in the identifcation process of Helium dead-spot locations throughout the country.

A 5G capable device is required.

Functioning as a decentralized wireless network, Helium offers open-source coverage globally. Since its introduction in 2019, more than 900,000 hotspots using Helium have been deployed, with 1,000 units added on a day-to-day basis.

At the moment, more than 2,500 active Helium hotspots with 5G are located in 889 U.S. suburban areas ssince the program became active in August this year.

Solana, Helium’s new blockchain, is known as a hub for building decentralized applications. When considering vote transactions, Solana’s daily transactions have grown from about 100 million to 200 million per day. The blockchain’s user count has surged past 1 million starting from May of this year. Helium developers recommended the shift due to Solana’s capacity to improve operational efficiency and scalability of projects.
