Japan-based conglomerate Sony Electronics reportedly partners with blockchain video delivery network Theta Labs to release NFTs, viewable in mixed reality via Sony’s Spatial Reality Display. 

Specifically, the Spatial Reality Display reportedly functions as a monitor that enables 3D perception for individuals, without the involvement of traditional 3D accessories. 

The Spatial Reality Display reportedly takes care of the tracking of eye movement and carries out adjustments to the display as the viewer moves, giving users a 3D viewing experience. 

With this, Mitch Liu, co-founder, and Head of Theta Labs, reportedly shared a belief that NFTs and metaverses will possess a “huge potential” for 3D visualization.

Liu further claimed that currently, the NFT sphere is made up of 2D images and videos. Nonetheless, the Head of Theta Labs believes that the “metaverse is already 3D”, which means the enactment of “visualizing and showcasing their NFTs in a way that has a physical presence” is necessary. 

Per Nick Colsey, a Sony Electronics executive, the NFT rollout is reportedly a decision made to display the capabilities of Sony’s new Spatial Reality Display technology to NFT and metaverse enthusiasts. 

“Consumers can now enjoy a next-generation 3D experience without the need for 3D eyewear. Theta’s NFTs are just the latest way we can show our rapid adoption of metaverse-friendly technology.”

Sony and Theta are collaboratively working to introduce an NFT dubbed “The Tiki Guy” which functions as a 3D Tiki Mask. Only 10 of these NFTs will be minted. While the NFT drop is particularly designed for 3D viewing, users will also be able to gain access to 2D versions.
