Austin Mayor Supports Web3 tech & Crypto-enabled Payments

| 14-Th3-2022

Mayor Steve Adler of Austin, Texas, reportedly employed a pro attitude towards the discovery of advantages blockchain and crypto payments are able to offer his city, via putting forward two new project proposals.

Specifically, the first project reportedly works towards the target of making sure Texas’s fourth-largest urban area advertises the perks blockchain has to offer, as well as “promotes equity, diversity, accessibility, and inclusion” in the technological ecosystem.

To that end, May Adler reportedly geared the city manager in the direction of deep-diving into the way the city can take advantage of Web3 and blockchain across 20 different aspects, from smart contracts, supply chain management, and insurance to arts, media, fundraising, and identity verification.

“The City Manager is directed to ensure the City is helping to create an environment within city government and in the community generally that supports the creation and development of new technologies, including without limitation blockchain and other Web3 related technologies, protocols, and applications.”

The second project proposed by Adler reportedly has the city manager carry out a “fact-finding study”, regarding the way Texas could adopt Bitcoin (BTC) and crypto-associated policies.

Via these attempts, Mayor Adler reportedly expressed the desire to discover ways to legalize crypto-enabled payments for the residents of Austin.

Under the scope of the project, the city manager should discover ways to enable “the acceptance of Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies as payment for municipal taxes, fees, and penalties”, as the first set of policies to look into.

The success of the two projects will reportedly be dependent on the level of the impact new applications have on the everyday lives of Austin residents. The proposals will be voted on by the city’s council on March 24.
