Singapore Ready to Commercially Deploy Blockchain Payments Platform

Telegram co-founder and current Head Pavel Durov reportedly shared with enthusiasm the reignited development of the Telegram Open Network (TON) tech, after Telegram dropped the initiative in 2020.

Specifically, he reportedly revealed that the initiative changed its branding from TON to Toncoin.

The initiative, bearing differences from the original TON, reportedly functions in an independent fashion from Telegram.

“I’m proud that the technology we created is alive and evolving. When it comes to scalability and speed, TON is still years ahead of everything else in the blockchain realm. I wish its team the same success. Coupled with the right go-to-market strategy, they have all they need to build something epic”. Durov further remarked via a Telegram post on December 23rd.

Comments from Durov reportedly surfaced following the event of Donate – a Telegram-verified payments service is gearing up to roll out facilitating features for donations on Telegram using the Toncoin cryptocurrency.

TON reportedly also disclosed on Dec 23rd details of an alliance forged with Donate, claiming that it will not be long until users have the power to make donations and pay for their subscriptions in Toncoin.

Simultaneously, channel administrators will also be equipped with the freedom to collect their income in the cryptocurrency. The Subscriptions service previously revealed the development on December 20th.

TON reportedly functions as a blockchain established by brothers Nikolai and Pavel Durov four years earlier (2017), but the two and Telegram departed from the project last year, following a prolonged fight against the United States Securities and Exchange Commission.

The US SEC particularly prevailed in a case where it made accusations towards Telegram regarding the alleged violations of the U.S. securities regulations, via carrying out its $1.7billion initial coin offering in 2018.
