Kickstarter Aims For the Migration to Platform Developed On Celo Blockchain

| 09-Th12-2021

Crowdfunding platform Kickstarter is reportedly gearing up to introduce a new firm aimed at completing the migration of its web page to a blockchain-powered system on Celo.

Specifically, via a blog post on December 8th, Kickstarter Head Aziz Hasan and co-founder Perry Chen reportedly revealed that Kickstarter would be building an open-source protocol, which will be live on the Celo blockchain.

The two execs reportedly mentioned the attempts from the blockchain to bring down its environmental impact – acquiring carbon negative status – to a minimum, apart from the fact that it was open source.

“We are entering a significant moment for alternative governance models, and we think there’s an important opportunity to advance these efforts using the blockchain”. Chen and Hasan further remarked.

Bloomberg reportedly disclosed that Kickstarter aims to complete the migration of its website to the blockchain platform in 2022, with the project sharing its decision of pushing out a white paper “in the coming weeks.”

Kickstarter reportedly claimed that the migration will cause no effects to any of the millions of users using the platform at the moment to crowdfund for a variety of projects, nominally medical and fitness products, artwork, books, and movies.

Furthermore, Kickstarter also revealed that it aims to set up a governance lab “overseeing the development of the protocol governance.” Purpose Foundation executive director and co-founder Camille Canon will be leading the effort.

Following the emergence of the crypto sphere, particular projects which may have been at the receiving end of capital support via Kickstarter have shifted to distributed autonomous organizations.

In November, a group known as ConstitutionDAO tried to buy a first edition print copy of the U.S. Constitution, in which 17,437 backers were issued governance tokens dubbed PEOPLE.
