During the heat of the legal combat between Ripple and US-based securities regulators, a former U.S. Treasurer and Ripple executive reportedly shared a pro attitude towards the XRP coin.
Specifically, Former Treasurer Rosa Rios – who became a member of Ripple’s board of directors in May this year – reportedly shared her reiteration via Twitter regarding the support for XRP, and simultaneously expressed a criticizing stance towards other coins, nominally Bitcoin (BTC).
Per Rios’ arguments, jurisdictions such as China are employing heavy scrutiny on Bitcoin, since cryptos such as BTC only functions as a medium of speculation.
“XRP’s primary purpose is facilitating cross border payments while other cryptos find their value in speculation. China’s latest move brings this point home.” Rios further remarked, regarding what Ripple and its payment ecosystem, RippleNet, has to offer.
Rios was reportedly in charge of the role of the U.S. Treasurer from 2009 through to 2016, during President Barack Obama’s stay at the White House, supervising every currency and coin production activity, with a yearly budget of $5 billion.
“Blockchain and crypto will underpin our future global financial systems, [and Ripple is] one of best examples of how to use cryptocurrency in a substantive and legitimate role to facilitate payments globally.” Rios additionally remarked.
Rios also shared the worries in terms of cryptocurrencies being illicitly utilized as a medium supporting criminal activities.
“There’s still a lot of work to be done in terms of really knowing what’s behind the curtain, how blockchain really works, how unfortunately cryptos are used to fund the dark web and other illicit activities”.
