One-third Of El Salvador Citizens Are Utilizing Chivo Wallet, Per President Bukele

| 27-Th9-2021

President of El Salvador Nayib Bukele reportedly revealed that 2,1 people in the country are utilizing the authority-supported Chivo crypto wallet, shining a light on the success of the nation’s Bitcoin adventure.

Specifically, the controversial president reportedly took to Twitter to share an update with 2.9 million accounts following him, revealing that Chivo has exceeded any El Salvador-based banks in terms of users, has been functioning normally only for three weeks.

Bukele reportedly believed that sooner or later Chivo adoption will dwarf the number of every bank in the nation combined.

The state-issued Chivo wallet was reportedly introduced in the start of September this year, with El Salvador granting the official status of legal tender to Bitcoin – a landmark initiative that could become a major case study for neighboring nations.

Chivo reportedly makes it possible for individuals and establishments to transfer and receive dollars or Bitcoin-enabled payments from any point across the globe.

The wallet is rolled out on both platforms – Android and iOS – with Mexico-headquartered crypto exchange Bitso also jumped on board to become the core service provider for Chivo.

Bukele’s most recent update reportedly indicates that the Bitcoin Law is experiencing favorable feedback throughout the nation, even as hundreds of anti-government protestors went on strikes to share their opposing attitude.

To be sure, mass adoption of Chivo is reportedly fueled partially by the government airdropping $30 equivalent of BTC to all Salvadoran account holders, with a shy over fifty percent of Salvadorans having no previous interactions with Bitcoin.
