CSA Twitter Was Hacked

The South African Cricket board (CSA) woke up to an awfully big media mess, as their official Twitter account (the OfficialCSA) was illegally taken over by an anonymous group of hackers, posting numerous tweets deceiving the followers into buying Bitcoin lottery.

“@OfficialCSA is partnering with @lunomoney for the first South African Bitcoin Lottery. Simply send 0,01 BTC to 13My18T92DCzGdrtiCgRuS32T6rFLjnG56 and your BTC Wallet Address will be entered into a BTC Lottery for 20BTC (That’s Over R1Mil). Lottery closes at 15 Jan @ 10 PM.” The first foul tweet surfaced at exactly 4.20 AM (IST time) on Monday

CSA & ICC Crisis Solving Efforts

Thankfully, after 7 hours of relentless efforts, together with the assistance from the World Cricket Body (ICC), the CSA regained control over their account and tweeted the following:

“And… we’re back! Apologies to all our Twitter followers who were affected by the hack overnight. We are back in control & ready to bring you what promises to be an even more eventful Day 4 of Test cricket. Thank you to our friends at the @ICC for your assistance this morning.”

During the incident, the ICC has confirmed the account was compromised and urged Twitter users to not interact with or follow any directions from the hackers until the situation is thoroughly resolved and all the foul tweets are removed.

The ICC also warned:

Please be aware that the @OfficialCSA Twitter account has been compromised. Our friends in South Africa are working hard to resolve the situation quickly. Please do not click on any links or engage with the account until such time as this is rectified.”
