Canadian Pro Basketball League to Support Crypto-enabled Partial Salary Payout to Club Athletes

| 20-Th6-2021

The Canadian Elite Basketball League is reportedly adding Bitcoin to the list of viable measures for accepting partial wages, for the players of the current seven teams, beginning the last week of June.

Specifically,  the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) has reportedly formed an alliance with crypto exchange Bitbuy from Toronto, to work on the partial conversion of basketball players’ existing wage, from Canadian dollars to Bitcoin (BTC) upon request.

The league further revealed that it will handle the arrangement of the funds to be directly transferred to the players’ own virtual wallets.

Over 70 athletes currently playing for the Edmonton Stingers, Fraser Valley Bandits, Guelph Nighthawks, Hamilton Honey Badgers, Ottawa Blackjacks, Niagara River Lions, and Saskatchewan Rattlers will reportedly satisfy the requirements to enter this new project. Bitbuy will also operate as an official sponsor for the CEBL.

Kimbal Mackenzie from the Nighthawks reportedly claimed that he will be among the earliest players to give the nod to the new initiative from the CEBL.

“The ability to have part of my salary go directly into an investment that I believe will appreciate greatly over the next 10-30 years is a no-brainer”

Despite the number of sports franchises and organizations teaming up with crypto and blockchain entities are reportedly on the rise, individuals are still somewhat worried about Bitcoin utilized as a means of exchange, taking into account the coin’s fluctuations in price value.

Regardless, Mackenzie shared that he would like to have fifty percent of his salary paid out in Bitcoin, and expressed no worries regarding any possible price turmoil.
