Akoin (AKN), the crypto initiative started by Senegalese-American artist Akon, has reportedly finalized the trial release phase of its deployment, across  the Kenya-based Mwale Medical and Technology City complex.

Specifically, the pilot stage was reportedly released in November last year, amid the AKN listing on the Bittrex crypto exchange being finalized.

After the initial pilot resulted in a successful status, the Akoin crypto is now completely prepared to run complete deployment in the $2 billion complex in July 2021.

Sharing his remarks regarding the success of the pilot initiative, Akoin President and co-founder Jon Karas reportedly disclosed that feedback for the release mostly claimed “great enthusiasm.”

Upon full deployment, AKN will reportedly be ready to be utilized by 5,000 hospital workers, 2,000 merchants, and more than 35,000 residents of the MMTC.

Overall estimation from the Akoin team reportedly claimed more than $5 million in transactions will be generated by the facility using AKN tokens.

Per the announcement, AKN utilization should experience a surge to make up for the estimated 20,000 MMTC workers expected by December of this year. Towards the end 2022, the Akoin team shared that AKN will function as the exclusive digital currency of the facility, facilitating the amount falling between $1.7 and $2 billion in transactions, on a year-on-year basis.

As included planned Akoin exclusivity within the complex, AKN can be a means of salary payment for workers and residents. The token will also be used for microtransactions, peer-to-peer money transfers, and mobile airtime top-ups among others.

The Akoin team is additionally making a physical card available, connected to the AKN wallet, which will support the transactions for users, across 40 million international merchant platforms.
