Enterprise blockchain entity Iconloop has reportedly obtained regulatory green light from South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT, to run trial phases for its decentralized identity (DID) tech system. 

Specifically, the DID solution is reportedly built with a goal to keep a tab of all driver’s license data across the nation, and the trial phase will reportedly display DID’s capabilities, regarding secure data storage while avoiding data forgery. 

Head of Iconloop, Jonghyup Kim, shared his remarks on the development, claiming that the DID platform will offer enhanced management of users’ personal data directly from the Zzeung mobile phone app, replacing the physical driver’s license cards. 

The app additionally equips users with an enhanced level of control over their personal information. 

Details of Iconloop’s DID test reportedly surfaced amid the time where digital identity adoption throughout South Korea is witnessing a surge. In August last year, it was reported that 1 million local citizens have in their possession a blockchain-based driver’s license. 

The planned trial is reportedly another authority-supported use case, regarding Iconloop’s blockchain-powered DID technology system across South Korea. 

The administrators of Jeju Island reportedly utilized DID contract to assist them with contact tracing, as included in the initiative to fight against the rise of the global pandemic throughout popular tourist locations. 

The solution is not exclusive to governmental agencies, as private companies, such as SaraminHR — a South Korea-based recruitment entity – has reportedly also the DID to finalize the authentication of credentials of job applicants.
