World’s First Blockchain-based 5G Phone with ID Authentication Rolled Out by Samsung

| 15-Th5-2020

Samsung and SK Telecom – a mobile carrier platform from South Korea – has reportedly released the first 5G smartphone across the globe which incorporated blockchain-based ID authentication.

Specifically, “Galaxy A Quantum” reportedly comes with a quantum random number generation chipset, built via the collaboration with Samsung Electronics.

The selling price of the phone reportedly started at 649,000 Korean won ($527.54 USD).

The firm reportedly revealed that the blockchain-based system is activated anytime a SK Pay-enabled transaction for goods and services is executed at offline merchants.

Blockchain was also involved as a solution for eliminating the falsification and theft of data held on the phone. The phone also reportedly comes with the SK Pay biometric protection — a mobile blockchain authentication feature.

South Korea has reportedly been pioneering in the field of designing blockchain-powered phones. Last year, mobile heavyweight LG was putting in resources to introduce a blockchain phone, rivaling Samsung’s crypto-friendly Klaytn Phone.
