266,000 Passwords Stolen And Published Online In Trident Crypto Fund Data Leak

| 06-Th3-2020

Trident Crypto Fund has reportedly undergone a security attack, which resulted in over 250,000 usernames and passwords of its clients taken and put up on the Internet.

Specifically, Ashot Oganesyan – head of Technical for cybersecurity firm DeviceLock – revealed that the database – which stores datas regarding email addresses, cellphone numbers, encrypted passwords and IP addresses – was published to a wide array of file sharing online platforms on February 20th.

Previously, approximately 120,000 passwords have been decrypted and published by attackers, helping them gain access to the victims’ accounts and personal funds.

Oganesyan also claimed that despite the high frequency of hacks targeting crypto exchange platforms and funds taking place, this particular security breach has left a significant impact on the people living in Russia

“Apparently, Russian citizens might already have got their data leaked before. However, no one has taken them into account before, and personal data leakage of 10,000 Trident Crypto Fund users can be considered the first major personal data leak of Russian crypto investors.” Oganesyan shared that the database holds information of around 10,000 Russians.

Security breaches that exploit sensitive data targeting crypto exchange platforms are occurring on an increased basis. Previously, crypto derivatives exchange Digitex, located in Seychelles, has finalized the removal of its KYC identification processes, as consequences of a major user data leak taking place in February.
